Description

Panelists will describe collaborative prevention and support services provided to people with HIV and/or hepatitis from incarceration to re-entry. Services addressing social determinants of health are provided in corrections facilities and upon release. Panelists include the program director, staff from a correctional medical facility, and community-based organizations working inside and outside of correction facilities.

Learning Objectives

  1. Understand how living with HIV affects someone's experience during incarceration.
  2. Understand struggles with HIV self-management and stigma upon release into the community.
  3. Understand effective strategies and challenges of the Criminal Justice Initiative, a New York State Department of Health AIDS Institute program for people with HIV, where Senior Utilization Review Nurse in the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision works collaboratively with community-based organizations both in-facility and in the community.
