Syphilis Cases Continue to Climb

TargetHIV

Syphilis cases continue to climb in the U.S. In April 2023, CDC reported a 32% increase in cases from 2020 to 2021 (133,954 to 176.713 cases). In 2022, cases had jumped yet again, to 203,500.

HIV and Syphilis: What’s the Connection? is the headline of a January 2024 HIV.gov, which reads, in part: "According to CDC, approximately half of MSM with primary and secondary (P&S) syphilis (the most infectious stages of syphilis) also have HIV. And MSM who are HIV-negative and diagnosed with P&S syphilis are more likely to get HIV."
