Resources to Help Clients Transitioning into Medicare

TargetHIV

From the ACE TA Center Listserv - 4/25/24

The number of people with HIV enrolled in traditional Medicare more than doubled between 1997 and 2020, according to this report from the KFF. This increase is due in part to advancements in HIV treatment leading to longer lifespans for people with HIV. The total number of Medicare beneficiaries with HIV is likely much larger, as this estimate does not include individuals enrolled in Medicare Advantage plans.

The ACE TA Center has a number of resources designed to help you and your clients navigate conversations about switching, adding, or dropping Medicare coverage. We encourage you to review our collection of Medicare tools available at TargetHIV.org.

We’ve highlighted six of our tools below to help you get started.

  1. The Basics of Medicare for RWHAP Clients
  2. The ABCDs of Medicare Coverage
  3. Medicare Prescription Drug Coverage for RWHAP Clients
  4. Transitioning from Marketplace to Medicare Health Coverage for RWHAP Clients
  5. How Medicare Enrollment Works
  6. One-on-One Medicare Enrollment Assistance for RWHAP Clients

Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program clients are aging. Of the more than half a million clients served by the RWHAP, over 273,000 (48.2 percent) are people aged 50 years and older. (Older Adult Clients: HRSA’s Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program, 2022, Population Fact Sheet, April 2024)
