Rates of viral hepatitis, across the ABC alphabet, have declined in recent years, according to the 2022 Viral Hepatitis Surveillance Report (CDC, April 2024). These improvements are highlighted in the report's webpages as:
- Hepatitis A rate decreased during 2022 - After annual increases during 2015–2019, the rate of hepatitis A decreased 88% between 2019 and 2022.
- Acute hepatitis B rate remained stable during 2022 - After annual decreases during 2020–2021, the rate of acute hepatitis B remained stable between 2021 and 2022.
- Acute hepatitis C rate decreased during 2022 - After annual increases during 2015–2021, the rate of acute hepatitis C decreased 6.3% between 2021 and 2022.
Across 10 indicators for progress toward 2025 goals, 4 were met or exceeded; 5 were moving toward meeting goals; and 1 was not met.
