Step-by-step process for measuring clinical performance with the goal of improving quality of care:

  • On Your Mark - Use this phase to select a quality of care indicator. Define what to measure, and how to measure it.
  • Get Set - Use this phase to document the measurement process. Train your data abstractors, and ensure that the measurement defined in the first phase is carried out as intended.
  • Go - This is the phase when data are collected, analyzed, and distributed to management and staff.  It is also the point at which planning will begin to determine the quality improvement activities that will follow.
