HRSA HIV/AIDS Bureau (HAB)

This extensive toolkit was developed to assist trainers and program directors in planning a peer training program for HIV-positive peers who work to engage and retain people living with HIV/AIDS in health care.

The Following Sections Include:

  • Main toolkit sections are: Introduction; Using the toolkit to design a training; Facilitation Skills; Training Modules; Training Evaluation; and Appendices
  • Toolkit Modules go into depth on key topics and serve as standalone training tools. They include core competencies for peer training (HIV/AIDS, communications skills, peer role, and putting it all together/jeopardy interactive training covering all of the above core competencies); activities; continuing education; and case studies/scenarios

See the companion Building Blocks to Peer Program Success: Toolkit for Developing HIV Peer Programs, which offers resources for agencies seeking to develop programs that utilize peers to help engage and retain other people living with HIV/AIDS in care. See also the Peer Center at Boston University for additional materials and education.
